Bronze monument in memory of Ukrainian Cossacks who died in the battle of Berestechko, Lutsk (Volyn) Oblast, when the 150,000 army of Polish King Jan Casimir IIIa defeated a 100,000 Cossack army led by Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky and his 50,000-strong ally, the Khan of the Crimean Tatars (A detailed description of the battle is given in the Encyclopedia of Ukraine). The monument on the battlefield at Berestechko was opened in 1991, the 340th anniversary of the historic battle.
