The core Executive members are from Ottawa, the current headquarters of the UCPBF. In addition to the President they include Peter Sorokan, Executive Vice-President and Marilyn Dolenko, Secretary. The Treasurer, Mike Stebila is from Windsor.
Other Executive members representing the 17 locals from sea to sea include:
The first Executive and Board meeting, held on July 4, developed several key directions to guide the Federation's work for the next 24 months:
"Our community has many prominent members in Canada who can provide guidance and support for our initiatives. We will be approaching them to form a premier group" said Peter Sorokan, the Vice President.
Also, the Federation will be establishing a Past Presidents' Club. " We already have commitment from Raya Shadursky and Peter Zakarow. I will be contacting other former Presidents in the next month," said former President Eugene Zalucky. "The important thing is to keep in touch. Great things happen when people get together."
"I'm optimistic about the work that we can do in the next two years. Members have agreed to "serve" rather than "sit" on the Executive and Board. That makes all the difference in moving yardsticks. Many interesting ideas came out of the discussions at the Convention. We intend to build on them, " said Oksana Bashuk Hepburn.
" I am delighted to announce that one of the most distinguished members of the Ukrainian community in Canada, the eminent Canadian politician and former Governor General of Canada, the Right Honourable Ramon Hnatyshyn, has agreed to have his name stand as the Patron of the Federation. Also, it gives me additional pleasure to announce that the well known Mr. William Teron, Chairman of the development firm Teron International has agreed to be the Honourary President of the Federation. "
Although both positions are honourary, the Federation will seek to benefit from the expertise and wisdom of the prominent appointees. "We face many issues as we begin the new Millennium which require leadership and thoughtfulness. We are delighted to have both of their names behind the Federation and by extension the Ukrainian community in Canada, " said Oksana Bashuk Hepburn, the newly elected President.
"This is very exciting news," was the overwhelming opinion of the sold-out Award Banquet participants.
