University students from Montreal’s Ukrainian community were invited by Yourko Kulycky, General Manager of the Caisse populaire Desjardins Ukrainienne de Montreal to the prestigious Le Windsor Hotel on October 1st. A presentation on stock markets reached out to youth and informed them about the workings of the financial world.

Students in attendance from Concordia, McGill and Universit de Montral were treated to a very enjoyable evening in elegant surroundings, overlooking the Traders’ Floor. The evening began with a brief history of the historic Windsor Hotel, followed by a very informative overview of the multitude of services provided by la Caisse. Louis-Etienne Fortin, Desjardins Securities broker provided a broad overview of markets, measures and indicators, while responding to technical questions from the students. A wine and cheese reception followed.

In addition to the evening’s focus on banking, a photo exhibit by Concordia University Communications graduate Adriana Luhovy featured a collection of twConcordia University Communications graduate Adriana Luhovy at her photography exhibitenty-one photographs, including those taken in 2008 during her visit to Eastern Ukraine. Some of the many striking photographs illustrated Famine Genocide survivors, as well as, a focus on architectural details and village scenes.

Entitled L’Art de la Bourse (The Art of Stock Markets), this highly successful event was conceived and organized by Anastasia Kyva, law student and current board of director’s intern. It provided the students with the opportunity to meet and learn from members of Desjardins administration about financial planning. Also present were Caisse populaire Desjardins Ukrainienne board members Marta Mayer, Gregory Kowryha, Steven Spilkin and their staff youth representative, Adrian Kowryha.

The event demonstrated the important and multi-faceted involvement of the Caisse populaire Ukrainienne de Montral within our community. It is intended as one of several upcoming events of the Ukrainian credit union to involve young people.
