UCC Montreal Holds AGM

President Zorianna Hrycenko-Luhova (2nd Row, second from left) with members of the UCC Montreal ExecutiveThe Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC), Montreal Branch and Quebec Provincial Council, held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 24, chaired by Yaroslav Czolij. Acclaimed President for a second term was Zorianna Hrycenko-Luhova. Elected to the 2011-2012 Executive are: Marika Putko, Past President; Bohdanna Klecor-Hawryliuk, 1st Vice President and Cultural-educational Committee Chairperson; Olena Kulishov and Lina Hawryliw, Secretaries; Yourko Kulycky and Andrij Dragan, Treasurers; Vice Presidents Pavlo Showhaniuk, Prof. Roman Serbyn; Zenon Bryniawsky; and member James Slobodian representing Northern Quebec. The President’s Report highlighted UCC Montreal’s working closely with Camp Spirit Lake Corporation in La Ferme, Quebec and the establishment of the Spirit Lake Internment Interpretive Centre. A resolution passed recognizing the Centre’s cultural-educational importance in Quebec and other parts of Canada.

Ukrainian School Board President Lesia Prystupa-Shwec reported that Met. Andr Sheptytsky School, with Irena Pawliw, Director, and Met. Illarion School with Dobrodijka Liudmylla Popowych, Director, have a total of 107 students attending classes. Ivan Prokaziuk reported on the Ukrainian Mutual Aid Society and their volunteers’ work to help Ukrainians in need.

Upcoming fall events will include the annual Holodomor commemoration on November 27 and a round table seminar on the past, present and future of the Ukrainian community in Quebec.
