Irene Mycyk, beloved mother and memory keeper, (nee Iwasykiw) born in Synevydne, Ukraine on May 28, 1921, passed away peacefully in Calgary, Alberta on October 16, 2013 at the age of 92.

Irene will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her family: her children, Oleh (Felicity) Mycyk and Mary (Ron) Tebo; her granddaughters Jennnifer (Geoff) Oestreicher and Katya Mycyk (Steve Forbes); her great grandchildren Sky, Alexander and Katie Oestreicher and Trinity and Emily Forbes; her brother, John (Vera) Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Irene was predeceased by husband, Dmytro, her parents Stefan and Rosalia Iwasykiw, her brothers Yarolsav and Myroslav (Morris) Iwasykiw and her sister Daria Kordiuk.

Throughout her life, through joys and sorrows, through hardships and losses, Irene endured and persevered. In spite of the wrenching hardships of leaving her homeland, of the dangers of traveling through war-torn Europe to finally arrive as a stranger in a strange land, she lived with dignity, grace and love. Throughout her life, Irene worked hard gave freely and generously of herself to improve the lot of family. Her love and devotion will be will be much missed, and not forgotten. We will remember.

A Requiem Mass (preceded by Prayers at the Cardinal Funeral Home Annette Chapel 92 Annette Street, Toronto, ON) will be celebrated in St. Josephat’s Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral (143 Franklin Ave, Toronto ON). Irene’s cremated remains will be interred next to her husband, Dmytro, in Park Lawn Cemetery, in Toronto on that date. The date of the service in Toronto will be announced when arranged. In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make memorial contributions in Irene’s name to a charity of their choice. Our family wishes to thank Irene’s companions and caregivers for their compassionate care and kindness, especially during her final days.
