UCC Statement on Passing of Jack Layton

KYIV, UKRAINE - August 22, 2011 - Ukrainian Canadian Congress National President Paul Grod made the following statement today on learning of the death of the Leader of the Official Opposition and New Democratic Party of Canada Leader Jack Layton:

Jack Layton was a friend of the Ukrainian Canadian community for many years, having supported democracy in Ukraine, recognition of the Holodomor, and Internment.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, our member organizations, and the Ukrainian Canadian community, I would like to express our heartfelt condolences to wife Olivia Chow and the Layton Family.

May his memory be eternal. Vich’naya pam’yat.
