Shevchenko in Ottawa – Monument Project Final Fundraising Appeal

Dear Supporters and Prospective Donors!

On June 26, 2011, a magnificent  monument to Taras Shevchenko, the National Poet of Ukraine,  was unveiled in Ottawa as part of a series of nation–wide celebrations of the 120th Anniversary of Ukrainian Settlement in Canada and the 20th Anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence.

This attractive monument consists of four bronze figures: a young and proud Taras Shevchenko, and three figures from his literary works: Kateryna, Haidamaky and Bandurist (Kobzar).  The sculptures were created by the renown Ukrainian-Canadian sculptor Leo Mol and the elegant design of granite bases by the recognized Ukrainian-Canadian architect Radoslav Zuk.

The monument will serve as lasting tribute to the contributions of more than 1.2 million Ukrainian-Canadians in the founding of this great nation.

This project was sponsored by the Ottawa Shevchenko Monument Committee in partnership with the Embassy of Ukraine and support of the Shevchenko Foundation, Ukrainian Canadian Congress, and the Ukrainian community of Ottawa.

We are in the final phase of our fundraising drive to raise the remaining $50,000 required to complete the project. We need your support now.

This is an excellent opportunity to be associated with an important Ukrainian-Canadian heritage project and a monument you can proudly take your family and friends to visit. If you have not seen the monument, we encourage you to visit the site and seriously consider becoming a donor.

There are three levels of giving:

• Benefactors  $500 - $4,999

• Patrons     $5,000 - $9,999

• Founders  $10,000 plus.

By making a donation at one of these levels, your name, the name of a loved one, family or name of an organization will be engraved on special plaques affixed to the donor wall.  Donations under $500 are also welcome and will be recognized on the website and, along with all donors, in a souvenir booklet and newspaper ads to be produced this year.

To see the many videos and photos of the unveiling ceremony and list of donors, please visit the website at:  www.infoukes.com/tarasinottawa.

Please make cheque payable to: Ottawa Shevchenko Monument and mail it directly to the Shevchenko Foundation, 202-952 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB R2W 3P4. You can also donate at any branch of Buduchnist Credit Union, through your own Ukrainian credit union or by contacting the Committee Chair.  You will receive an income tax receipt for your donation.
