High-flying scholarship fundraiser action at Rodney's By Bay Oyster BarOn Saturday Evening, April 2nd, over 80 people gathered at Rodney’s By Bay Oyster Bar on Temperance St. in Downtown Toronto’s financial core to raise funds for the Bohdan Tatarka Educational Bursary, sponsored by the Canada-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce to honour the memory of former CUCC Member Bohdan Tatarka, who sadly passed away in September 2010.  SIP, SAVOUR & SUPPORT was hosted by Side Road Twenty Cellars, which showcased local Ontario wines from Stonechurch, Creekside, and Gretzky Estate Wineries.  Established Rosewood Wineries also presented select productions at the event.  Freshly shucked oysters and delicious in-house canaps provided by Rodney’s were an added bonus enjoyed by the attendees throughout the energized evening.

The fundraising event raised about $12,000 to support scholarships for students pursuing Business Studies in the Toronto Area.  Many of the attendees raised their hands high and bid generously on various donated auction items, such as: select VQA wines, wines signed by “The Great One” himself, personal tours at a Niagara winery, premium seats to sporting events, wine fridges filled with wines, weekend getaways to Blue Mountain Resort near Collingwood, Ont., and week-long getaways to Florida.

Attendees were offered select VQA premium reserve and estate wines for purchase not offered through retail at the Liquor Control Board of Ontario, with direct-from-winery pricing.  A portion of all wine sales went directly to the scholarship fund.  For those not able to attend the event, but who are interested in purchasing wine to support the scholarship fund, may still do so by contacting the CUCC at 416-253-6700.  A portion of every future purchase will continue to be added to the bursary.  Call now and reserve these fine wines (about 20 selections) while still available at winery-direct prices (up to 50% less than LCBO retail).

Family and friends of Bohdan Tatarka, or community members who could not attend the event, but wish to support the fund established in his name, are welcome and encouraged to do so.  Please send your donation c/o CUCC - Tatarka Fund, 145 Evans Ave., Suite 211, Toronto, Ontario M8Z 5X8

Good wine, good food and good fun was had by all attendees well past midnight.  A mighty “Thank You” to all guests, sponsors and supporters of this very successful scholarship fundraising evening in memory of Bohdan Tatarka.
