As a Ukrainian Canadian, I was most upset upon reading Multiculturalism Minister Gerry Weiner's pronouncements (Free Press, September 23) that the treatment of Japanese Canadians during the Second World War was "unparalleled" and "there never has been an episode like this in Canadian post-Confederation history."

Mr. Weiner cannot be allowed to revise Canadian history and tell us that internment, disenfranchisement and deportation injustices were not inflicted upon tens of thousands of Ukrainian Canadians during the First World War just because they were former Austro-Hungarian citizens. Mr. Weiner has done a grave injustice not only to Ukrainian Canadians but to his portfolio. He should resign or be relieved of his post before he makes more mockery of the new multiculturalism ministry.
