Sichan Life
The battle drums
began their
battle beat.
Horses and riders
surging forward
faster
as the Earth
quaked
under their feet.
Their swords
unsheathed
astride their steeds
all the Turks could hear
was the Cossacks
cheer
Zaporozhtsi.
Mykola
rode
as if on the
wind
wishing
his young son
were beside him
he thought of his wife
and the Sichan Life
as an arrow
pierced his heart
He fell face first
on the beloved Earth
its taste reassuring
